Locally, you will find several Bed & Breakfasts and country inns whose hospitality will further enhance your memories of your visit to the Potomac Highlands. Whether you want a room with a panoramic mountain view or you want to be along the river, there is an Inn for you. The Bed and Breakfast, as the name implies, includes a room and breakfast. Several of the establishments in this area are Country Inns which offer all meals, if you so desire. Near Petersburg are three Inns, the Wildernest Inn (304-257-9076), nestled high atop a mountain overlooking a lake; the North Fork Mountain Inn (304-257-1108), a log lodge located in the legendary Smoke Hole region; and the Thorn Run Inn (304-749-7733), a rambling Georgian-style farmhouse built in the 1870’s. To the South, in Franklin, is the Shaw House (304-358-3155) and the historic and beautiful McCoy’s Mill (304-358-7893). Wherever you stay you can be sure you will receive true mountain hospitality, great food and the chance to meet many new friends in an informal and casual atmosphere.

Log Cabins and Motels

Located on the beautiful North Fork of the South Branch Potomac River sits Smoke Hole Cabins and Motel (1-800-828-8478), Harman’s North Fork Cottages (1-800-436-6254), Sites’ Cabins (304-257-4400), and Yokum’s Motel and Log Cabins (1-800-772-8342). The cabins are surrounded by fantastic views of rock cliffs, lustrous green mountains and the sound of the cool, relaxing water. Nestled in the surrounding Monongahela National Forest sits the North Mountain Vacation Rentals (304-257-5411), which overlooks the majestic mountains of the South Branch Valley. In Petersburg, there are several motels, hotels and inns. One mile west of Petersburg is the Homestead Inn Motel (304-257-1049). Just 12 miles north in Moorefield is the South Branch Inn (304-538-2033).

We offer camping at our base with bathroom facilities, campfire and patio use. Camping at our facility ensures the earliest possible start the next day. We can also secure arrangements for camping at Eagle Rock at Smoke Hole. Please call and ask for details on these campsites. Other campsites in the area are Seneca Shadows at Seneca Rocks, and Big Bend Campground at Big Bend in the Smoke Hole. Information on these sites can be obtained by calling 877-444-6777. There are numerous campsites along the riverbanks of our two to five-day trips. It is our opinion that there is no better way to fully appreciate the beauty and serenity of a river canyon than to camp overnight along the bank in the heart of the canyon.
